Steve Carmichael has worked for over 40 years in visual communications. At age 17, Steve became interested in photography and honed the skills that have led him to a career in photography, photojournalism, cinematography, broadcast TV and commercial production.

Steve's photo career started as a military news journalist from 1962-1965 for the U.S. Navy and Pacific Stars and Stripes. Then, in 1965 he began working his way through college at the Montgomery Advertiser and WCOV-TV, learning the crafts of news film photography, processing and editing. He also acquired skills as an on-air announcer and studio camera operator.

After graduating from Huntingdon College with a B.A. in drama, he was hired as a news film photographer by WAGA-TV in Atlanta which led him to a 14 year broadcast career as a cinematographer, feature producer, writer, editor and chief photographer. He was the on-camera host for the travel segment on Weekend Magazine for part of this time.

From 1976-1978 he free-lanced in Los Angeles as a cinematographer, camera loader and set-lighting technician for the film industry at Universal, Walt Disney, Lorimar, Warner Brothers, Paramount and Columbia Studios.

Since 1986 Steve has worked as a commercial TV producer in Atlanta guiding clients in developing concepts, scripts, budgets and production schedules. He supervises these projects to completion.

In 1993, one of Steve's clients asked if he could hire a still photographer as part of a documentary project he was supervising in Russia. In the end, he acted as producer and still photographer. Numerous other still projects have followed for CNN, Benning Construction, Discover Card Services, AADD, Wildcat Jewelry in Germany and others. Steve has been published in Life Magazine, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated and Atlanta Magazine.
